ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Valerie Mitchell, 32, for allegedly striking her 11-year-old son after he stole his grandmother’s credit card.
On June 25th, Winnebago Police responded to the Winnebago Park District for a child with multiple bruises. The victim told officials his mother had slapped him multiple times.
Authorities recovered a screenshot of a text where Mitchell confirmed to the child’s temporary guardian she beat him and took photos of the bruising, according to court documents.
Rockford Police took the case and spoke to the child’s temporary guardians. The guardians confirmed he had injuries to his face and right arm, according to police.
One guardian also confirmed to authorities she received Mitchell’s text about her striking him.
Mitchell is being charged with aggravated battery of a child with bodily harm and domestic battery with bodily harm.
