The San Luis Obispo Police Department identified a suspect and seized the car believed to be involved in a July fatal hit-and-run crash, the agency announced in a post on X Thursday.
Two men from Avila Beach, 87-year-old Saul Goldberg and an unidentified 73-year-old were riding electric bicycles southbound on South Higuera Street near the cemetery on July 23 when the driver of an “unknown vehicle” sideswiped the first bike and then hit the second, police said.
Both men, who were wearing helmets, were thrown to the ground, police said.
Goldberg was quickly loaded into an ambulance and transported to a hospital in critical but stable conditions. He died of his injuries on July 30.
The 73-year-old sustained minor to moderate injuries, police said.
A white four-door sedan was seen fleeing the scene shortly after the collisions, and “its driver is wanted for questioning,” police said at the time.
