Tornado watch, flood advisory in effect for Jersey Shore region on Friday – MASHAHER


Hang on to your hats and grab your slickers.

The Shore is in for a bumpy ride Friday due to the remnants for Hurricane Debby.

Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect through the weeekend:

Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout Friday. Some of these storms could be strong with heavy wind gusts. It will be mostly cloudy and breezy, with a high temperature around 82. Winds will be coming from the south at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. There’s a 40% chance of rain, with less than a tenth of an inch expected, except for possibly higher amounts during thunderstorms.

Tonight: Rain is likely tonight, with showers and thunderstorms possible until early morning, then more scattered storms after that. Some of these storms could be strong with heavy rain. It will be warm and windy, with a low around 73. Winds from the south will be 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. There’s an 80% chance of rain, with between a quarter and half an inch possible.

Saturday: Scattered showers are expected in the morning, with some heavy rain possible. The skies will clear up by afternoon, becoming sunny. It will be warm and breezy, with a high near 89. Winds will be from the northwest around 5 mph. There’s a 30% chance of rain, with less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: It will be mostly clear and cool, with a low around 64. Light west winds will die down by evening.

Sunday: Enjoy a sunny day with a high near 86. Light winds will pick up from the west in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: It will be mostly clear and cool, with a low around 63.

Coastal Flood Advisory in effect

There’s a Coastal Flood Advisory in place for Ocean County until 6 a.m. Saturday. This means up to a foot of water could flood low-lying areas near the shoreline and waterways. What to expect:

The worst flooding is expected around Barnegat Bay, especially near Mantoloking, due to high tides and strong southerly winds.

Wind Advisory in effect

Strong winds are expected until 11 p.m. tonight for coastal New Jersey. Winds will be coming from the south at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Be prepared for:

Tornado Watch issued

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Tornado Watch for parts of Delaware, Washington D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia until 2 p.m. Friday.

This means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. Stay alert for weather updates and be prepared to take shelter if necessary.
