China’s Luo Shifang won gold in the women’s 59kg weightlifting with a total of 241kg, setting Olympic records in the snatch and clean and jerk.
Canada’s Maude Charron took silver with 236kg, edging out Taiwan’s defending champion Kuo Hsing-Chun who took bronze with 235kg.
Later on Thursday, Indonesia’s Rizki Juniansyah won gold in the men’s 73kg with a total of 354kg.
Weeraphon Wichuma of Thailand took silver, lifting 346kg, and Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Andreev claimed bronze with 344kg.
