With the final day of the 2024 Paris Olympics arriving, the race for the most gold medals by country is down to two: the United States and China.
The two countries finished Saturday neck-and-neck, with China taking a big lead early in the day on the strength of a dominant outing in the diving events before the United States cut into the margin late with several team and relay golds. The Americans won both the men’s and women’s 4×400-meter relays and also added golds in men’s hoops and women’s soccer.
With only a few events remaining Sunday, below is a list for both countries to win more medals and come out of the Olympics with the most golds this year.
