Talk about a great combo
The Democrats’ only chance and choice for president is Michelle Obama. She would be a fierce opponent for Donald Trump. But illegal immigration would be her big challenge. A hard-line Republican on the issue as her running mate would be the answer: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
We need to unify America to bring back greatness.

Don’t cheat Fort Worth students
In the Monday front-page story “Reading scores show FWISD years behind national average,” Fort Worth schools spokesman Charlie Garcia claimed the norms the district was judged against are national trends and don’t take into account specific groups of students with different achievement levels. “It isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison,” he said.
Why should the Fort Worth district be compared only with low-performing peers? Such thinking is best described by a phrase I borrow from former President George W. Bush: “the soft bigotry of low expectations.”

Not a question of manliness
In the upcoming presidential election, I will be voting for the female candidate, and I am proud of it. I am not concerned about anyone questioning my masculinity, as one Fox News host did, stating, “When a man votes for a woman, he actually transitions into a woman.”
I served my country as a Green Beret, and I dare anyone to question my masculinity. I will not be voting for the female candidate because she is a woman but but because she is better qualified.
For those macho men who claim they cannot vote for a woman and would rather vote for a criminal who has been found guilty on felony charges by a jury of his peers, I would question not your masculinity but your rationale.

We need Trump for God
Vice President Kamala Harris picked someone as liberal as herself, if not more so, for vice president. I hope Americans can see what their vision is. We need Donald Trump to do so many things — rebuild America’s stature and respect throughout the world, unleash our oil industry, protect our farmers, help working men and women, and most importantly restore love and trust in God.

More college, not less
The Aug. 6 commentary “College wrecked productivity. How to fix it” (10A) is short-sighted in its attacks on higher education. Why are E.J. Antoni and Keri D. Ingraham of the Heritage Foundation so focused on dismantling universities? We need more scientists, doctors, inventors and thinkers.
It’s a tired and false argument that colleges are focused on political indoctrination. Colleges are where students learn to be independent thinkers.
With the emergence of artificial intelligence, jobs will be changing. Students need to develop critical thinking and communication skills.
Texas has so many great universities. We need more education, not less.

Just talk about your record
Campaigning used to involve candidates telling the public what they had done or what they intended to do that would appeal to more than 50% of serious voters. That isn’t the case anymore. Today, silly challenges, name-calling and threats almost outnumber outlandish claims we know didn’t or won’t happen because Congress stands in the way.
Donald Trump has a four-year record as president, and Kamala Harris has three-plus years’ experience as vice president. Let them stick to what they have gotten done.
