A father and his two sons have been identified as the passengers who were killed when a single-engine plane crashed Tuesday afternoon in Oklahoma City.

Daniel Swinehart was “a proud veteran who served his country with honor,” Quail Springs Baptist Church said in a statement to the media Friday. With him were his sons, Landin, 13, and Hudson, 10.

Swinehart, 37, served in both the U.S. Army and Air Force, according to an online profile.

“Daniel’s wife and the boys’ mother, Victoria Swinehart, was not on board the aircraft and is enduring this grief with the support of her family, friends, and church community,” the church said. “In these dark times, we draw strength from our faith.”

Also killed was the pilot, Michael Kaswan, 68, of Oklahoma City, according to the funeral home handling his services. He is listed in Federal Aviation Administration records as the owner of the the Beech F33A airplane.

The FAA reported the plane’s left wing hit a hay bale on takeoff from Sundance Airport in west Oklahoma City. It then crashed into trees and caught on fire.

Firefighters saw a plume of smoke east of the runway after getting a call about the incident at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday.

“There was a lot of fire that was active. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. Unfortunately, there were four souls on board and nobody survived,” said Scott Douglas, the Oklahoma City Fire Department’s public information officer.
