Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have been married for over two decades. Their relationship, filled with quirky humour and mutual respect, often captures the attention of fans and media alike. Recently, while promoting his upcoming film Khel Khel Mein, Akshay Kumar opened up in an interview with Galatta India about the dynamics of his marriage to Twinkle, who is not only an accomplished author but also a personality completely different from him.

Akshay Kumar spoke candidly about the differences between him and Twinkle. “Me and my wife are very different. We are poles apart. She thinks left, I think right,” Akshay revealed. Despite these differences, the couple has found a way to make their relationship work, emphasizing that it’s not about having everything in common but rather about having mutual respect and understanding.
“The only thing which is common in us is that we both like to sleep early and wake up early,” Akshay said. He also mentioned their love for simple activities like playing Rummy or Ludo together. However, he was quick to point out that these commonalities are not the foundation of their strong bond. “It is important to give each other space. There are 36 traits in people, not necessarily they all have to be common in a couple. But if you have that one trait of respecting each other, I think it’s equivalent to having all the traits you need in a relationship,” Akshay explained.
Akshay also discussed how he and Twinkle handle communication, especially when it comes to expressing their opinions. He described himself as someone who prefers to keep quiet and avoid unnecessary conflicts, contrasting with Twinkle’s more outspoken nature. “I believe people should keep quiet. They should not comment on everything. Words can harm you a lot. A word can hurt you harder than a punch. Tongue can destroy relationships. It can create wars. You need to be very careful of what you speak,” Akshay reflected.
The actor, often described as diplomatic, explained that his approach is intentional. “People call me diplomatic, well, be it so. I am diplomatic because I measure my words before saying it to anyone. I don’t want to hurt anybody,” he said.
Akshay contrasted his approach with Twinkle, who he describes as more direct and candid. “My wife is quite open. If she watches a film, she will tell the producer, ‘it’s a shit film.’ And I always tell her, relax, don’t do that. I know she is telling the truth, but what’s the point in hurting someone?” Akshay shared. Akshay and Twinkle’s marriage, which began in 2001, has resulted in a close-knit family with two children, Aarav and Nitara.
As Akshay prepares for the release of Khel Khel Mein, which marks the return of Fardeen Khan to the big screen after a 14-year hiatus, the film scheduled for release on Independence Day, is the actor’s third major release of the year. He will see him star alongside Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, and Ammy Virk. The film is set to clash at the box office with Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor and Vedaa starring John Abraham and Sharvari.
