The Dindoshi Sessions court in Mumbai has issued a summons for the second time to cricketer Prithvi Shaw pertaining to a plea filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill.
The court had earlier issued a summons on April 30, but neither the cricketer nor his legal representatives turned up. Owing to this, the court has issued a summons for Shaw again at his new address.
As no one appeared for him on Monday to represent Shaw, Ali Kaashif Khan, Gill’s lawyer, submitted another application stating that the cricketer’s new house was in the news recently, so he would be permitted to serve a summons at Shaw’s new address.
Judge DG Dhoble permitted Khan to serve the summons for Shaw’s appearance on October 1, 2024.
The summons is related to a complaint that Gill filed. She is challenging orders of the Magistrate court which ordered a police enquiry into Gill’s plea seeking an FIR against Shaw for allegedly molesting her at a pub.
Gill was arrested in February 2023 along with some others in connection with an attack on Shaw. This was following an argument over clicking selfies at a suburban hotel. She was later granted bail, which has been challenged by the prosecution in the Dindoshi Sessions Court.
After being granted bail in the case, Gill approached the airport police station in Andheri with a complaint of molestation against Shaw, his friend Ashish Yadav and others.
She later moved to the Magistrate’s Court after the police refused to register a case against the cricketer. However, when the court ordered a police enquiry, she approached the Dindoshi court to challenge the order.
During the hearing of the plea against the airport police, Judge Dhoble also granted a “last chance” to the investigators to file a reply to Gill’s plea, while Khan pressed that the court pass an ex parte order. Khan pointed out that the airport police seemed uninterested in filing their reply, which they had been stating that they would do for the past few hearings.
