NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Monday urged the West Bengal government to take strict action in the alleged rape and murder of a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The Congress leader called the incident ‘heartbreaking’ and appealed WB government to ensure justice to the victim’s family and fellow doctors in a post on X in Hindi.

Priyanka Gandhi also highlighted safety issues of women at workplace, saying “Safety of women at workplace is a big issue in the country and concrete efforts are needed for this.”
A second-year postgraduate female trainee doctor was found dead on August 9 at R G Kar Medical College in Kolkata. Following an initial investigation, the police said that it was a case of murder. However, the victim’s father claimed that his daughter had been sexually assaulted before being killed.
