All eyes right now are on the Independence Day releases but trade, industry and fans are already waiting for Diwali when the much-awaited film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan, will hit cinemas. The second part, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2(2022), also starred Kartik and was helmed by Anees Bazmee. The winning jodi is back for part 3 and this time they are also joined by Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri. Hence, the trade experts feel that it’ll emerge as the biggest opener for Kartik Aaryan and also for the franchise. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 opened at Rs. 14.11 crores and the third part surely would surpass this number by leaps and bounds.
Trade experts feel Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 would emerge as Kartik Aaryan’s BIGGEST opener: “He took over the franchise from Akshay Kumar. Now, the series is synonymous with Kartik Aaryan. I don’t think any other actor has achieved this feat”
Trade veteran Tarah Adarsh explained why the third part is much awaited, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a huge franchise. I am sure two songs will be retained from the original – ‘Hare Ram Hare Krishna’ and ‘Aami Je Tomar’. Also, Kartik’s casting along with Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan and Triptii Dimri would be a huge draw to the audience. The audience is also looking forward to the horror and comedy elements.”
He added, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is going to be a huge opener. It’ll have the biggest opening for the series as well as Kartik Aaryan as it’s an out-and-out masala film. Also, it’s releasing on Diwali, when people are in a mood to go out and celebrate.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan agreed, “It’ll definitely be his biggest opener. Also, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 came at a time when the cinema business was struggling. Since it’s a franchise and releasing on Diwali, it’ll have an advantage.”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst also remarked, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was one of the first Hindi films that got audiences back into cinemas. It clearly showed Kartik’s affinity for him.”
When asked for opening day predictions, they replied that it’s too early to say. Atul Mohan explained, “It’ll have a big opening for sure. Now it depends on how many screens it gets and other factors.”
Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi emphasized, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is the third instalment of a truly successful franchise. The first part literally started the horror comedy genre. Kartik took it to a whole different level by getting business of nearly Rs. 200 crores with equally phenomenal songs. The first part had Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar’s lethal combination. The second part was helmed by Anees Bazmee, who’s a highly entertaining director and starred Kartik Aaryan, who’s an equally entertaining actor. The common element for both the previous films was chartbuster music. I am sure it’ll be carried forward in part 3 as well. It’s only a matter of time before screens are set on fire this Diwali with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. There’s also Singham Again releasing on the same day and both films appeal to the audience in metros and tier 2 and 3 cities, multiplex as well as single screens etc.”
Kartik vs Ajay-Akshay-Ranveer-Tiger-Deepika-Kareena
Regarding the clash, the trade and industry have applauded Kartik for not letting go of the Diwali date and clashing with the mighty Singham Again, which stars multiple heroes. Akshaye Rathi said, “Diwali has always been one of the most beneficial periods at the box office. It has the appetite for two films. The makers just need to be particular that the showcasing is done right. If that happens, I am confident that it’ll be one of the best Diwali periods in a very long time.”
Atul Mohan opined, “Two films can easily manage and get good showcasing. Both are a part of the popular series. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has the advantage of music.”
Girish Johar stated, “It’s scheduled for a Diwali release when the business is bountiful. The buzz for the film is very strong and is one of the most anticipated movies of 2024. Hence, I am confident that the film will have a very good run.”
He also said, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 makers were the first to announce the Diwali date. Diwali, anyway, is such a huge festival that you can’t get a solo release and I’ll be very happy if both have a great run.”
Unanimous love for Rooh Baba
The experts also said that as Rooh Baba, Kartik Aaryan struck a chord with the audience. Taran Adarsh said, “People have liked him as Rooh Baba and hence, people definitely want to see him in the same avatar again.”
Atul Mohan raised an important point, “The best part is that he has been accepted. He took over the franchise from Akshay Kumar. Now, the series is synonymous with Kartik Aaryan. I don’t think any other actor has achieved this feat.”
He added, “The younger audience might not have seen Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s first part as they were too young or were not born. For them, Kartik Aaryan is the face of Bhool Bhulaiyaa.”
Girish Johar exulted, “He got a lot of love from the audience from the second part. I am sure he has grown in confidence this time. His acting definitely has improved. Even in Chandu Champion, his performance was highly appreciated. He’s an actor who, with his choices, is trying to become a star. The kind of films he’s doing, his trajectory is quite good, be it Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Satyaprem Ki Katha, Freddy, Dhamaka etc. Hence, he’s slowly expanding his fan base.”
