UK riots: Matt Goodwin lets rip at claim multiculturalism ‘is working’ – MASHAHER

Political commentator Matt Goodwin has hit out at the claim multiculturalism “is working” in a furious rant on GB News, saying it is one of the root causes for the unrest we have seen across Britain.

He joined Andrew Doyle on Free Speech Nation to discuss the havoc sparked by the killings of three girls attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport.

Goodwin argued Sir Keir Starmer needs to address the underlying issues in order to avoid such a scenario happening again.

“I think we have this rather ridiculous debate among columnists and elites in this country, which is, ‘multiculturalism is a success story’”, he said.

“They say, ‘how dare you question it?’ It’s very visible to anyone that lives outside the M25 that it’s not really working.

“What the policy of multiculturalism does is it priorities minority groups, their history, their identity, their culture and their values.

“It says you can keep all of those things. You can stay distinctive from the wider national community, but at the same time, it says the majority group, ‘you cannot really defend and celebrate your identity, your history and your values. If anything, we want you to reshape those things around universal, liberal values like diversity’.

“There’s lots of people saying, ‘hang on, how come these groups are allowed to prioritise who they are and celebrate it and defend it, but we’re now being told we have to reshape our entire identity around these universal, liberal themes?’

“To say that a country is welcoming is fine, but it’s not the basis of an identity because it’s like saying you have no identity.

“It’s like saying there’s nothing unique about you, but many English and British people feel there is something unique about you. We’ve got a great set of values, culture and history.

“We’re told time and time again that we should be ashamed of that.”

The demonstrations across Britain turned into an outcry against immigration with protesters pitching up outside hotels housing asylum seekers.

The chaos was condemned by the Government after some attacked the police and vandalised property.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has paid tribute to the police after they faced “brazen abuse and contempt”.

Attacks on local communities and police are a “disgraceful assault on the rule of law itself,” she said.

“As home secretary, I am not prepared to tolerate the brazen abuse and contempt which a minority have felt able to show towards our men and women in uniform, or the disrespect for law and order that has been allowed to grow in recent years,” Ms Cooper wrote in the Daily Telegraph.

“As well as punishing those responsible for the last fortnight’s violent disorder, we must take action to restore respect for the police and respect for the law.”
