Prime Video released a compelling trailer for its upcoming Original docu-series, Angry Young Men. The three-part series promises to delve into the personal and professional journey of Bollywood’s legendary screenwriting duo, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, more popularly known as Salim-Javed. The trailer launch event was a star-studded affair, bringing together the Khan and Akhtar families to celebrate the legacy of Salim-Javed.

During the event, Javed Akhtar reminisced about his first impressions of Salim Khan’s children, particularly Salman and Arbaaz Khan. “When I met Salim Saab for the first time, Salman was barely a year old. It was the year 1965. It is not surprising that he is such a handsome man as he has been beautiful since his childhood. He was an exceptionally good-looking child,” Javed recalled.
Javed Akhtar further shared amusing anecdotes about Salman Khan’s childhood, offering a stark contrast to the image of the superstar today. “The rest of the kids grew right in front of me. But what is amusing is that today Salman Khan is a He-Man and dashing star, but as a kid, he was incredibly shy. He would not talk much,” Javed revealed, adding humorously, “The one who was naughty was this one,” as he pointed to Arbaaz Khan. “He was a regular seducer,” Javed quipped, much to the audience’s amusement.
He described Arbaaz as someone who had a natural ability to charm everyone who visited their home. “Arbaaz was always well-groomed and would comb his hair neatly even as a six-year-old,” he added.
The event was attended by the legends themselves, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who co-wrote 24 films together, of which 22 were blockbusters. Also in attendance were Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Farhan Akhtar, and Zoya Akhtar. The Khan and Akhtar siblings, who have co-produced the series, came together to honour the incredible journey of their fathers.
The trailer offers a nostalgic, emotional, and inspirational look at Salim-Javed’s extraordinary journey and their lasting legacy in Bollywood. It immerses viewers in the vibrant world they helped create, showcasing their iconic films such as Deewar, Don, Sholay, Trishul, and Dostana. These films not only redefined Indian cinema but also cemented Salim-Javed’s reputation as the first screenwriters to achieve stardom.
The docu-series features rare archival footage, providing a rare glimpse into their personal relationships, camaraderie, and creative brilliance. The trailer also includes heartfelt reflections from industry icons like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini, Helen, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who speak on the profound impact Salim-Javed had on their careers and on Indian cinema as a whole.
In the 1970s, these two revolutionized Indian cinema by introducing the ‘angry young man’ archetype, shifting the industry’s focus from romance to action-packed dramas. Produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, the docuseries is executive produced by industry heavyweights including Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti. Marking the directorial debut of Namrata Rao, Angry Young Men is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on August 20.
