Crash sends concrete pillars onto roadway, shuts down 99 for several hours – MASHAHER

MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A crash involving a semi and a pick-up shut down the southbound lanes of Hwy 99 for several hours on Sunday evening after pushing four temporary K-Rails into the road, CHP says.

Officers say a 23-year-old in a Kenworth semi was heading north in the slow lane along Hwy 99 toward Avenue 12. A 22-year-old in a Toyota Tacoma was driving in the same direction, at the same time, in the left lane.

According to CHP, the driver of the Kenworth made an unsafe lane change and attempted to switch over to the left lane, colliding with the Toyota.

Officials say the impact caused both vehicles to crash into the construction zone’s temporary K-Rails, pushing four of the concrete pillars onto the roadway and blocking all southbound traffic lanes for several hours.

The pick-up and semi crossed over into the southbound lanes of the freeway before safely coming to a rest on the west shoulder of southbound Hwy 99, CHP says. Both drivers sustained minor injures.
