An Abernathy man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday on Interstate 27 in north Lubbock County.
Christian Isaiah Fernandez, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that was reported about 5:05 a.m. Sunday on I-27 near New Deal, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Investigators believe Fernandez was driving a 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck north in the right lane of I-27 near mile market 14 when he failed to maintain a single lane and struck a guardrail, causing the vehicle to travel down the concrete embankment for the overpass. The truck entered the grass median and began to overturn before coming to a rest upright in the grass median near the service road. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Other factors contributing to the crash were not immediately clear as an investigation is underway.
