KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — Crews are fighting a fire Thursday afternoon at a senior living community in Kentwood.
The fire broke out at American House Kentwood, located at 5980 Eastern Ave. SE near 60th Street SE. A News 8 crew saw the roof in flames, with several fire trucks on scene.
A fire official at the scene said he wasn’t aware of any injuries.

David Vannoller, who lives in the area, told News 8 he was one of the people to call 911.
“I was in my back porch and I was looking across the street, and I saw this white smoke coming up,” he said. “And I could hear their fire alarms going off.”
Vannoller said he went over to help, but when he arrived, everyone seemed to be out and staff members were doing a head count.
“Everybody was working real hard and smart,” he said.
