LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Departing Little Rock School Superintendent Jermall Wright on Friday responded to concerns surrounding his surprise resignation announcement.
Wright’s announcement of his voluntary resignation from the job on Thursday night raised some concerns among the Little Rock School District’s parents and students. Among the concerns were those about interim oversight of the school district, which Wright addressed in the letter.
“I will remain in my role until the transition plans are finalized, ensuring clarity and continuity,” Wright wrote. “As we move forward, please remember that our students are and should be the focus of everything we do, and we must never lose sight of that mission.”

Wright, who holds a doctorate of education, spoke fondly of the district’s work in his letter.
“I am deeply proud of the work we have accomplished together and the progress we have made as a District,” the superintendent wrote. “The success of our students has always been, and will continue to be, the heart of our mission.”
Wright continued to compliment the school district’s “dedicated team of professionals” and the collective effort required to “make our District strong.”
School board president Michale Mason said Thursday night the district is actively working to name a new superintendent “in a timely manner” as a transition plan is outlined.
