Commemorating 79 years since the unfateful and dark chapter of Indian history, the Direct Action Day, makers of Maa Kaali have served a reminder to the nation with a short video incorporating the horrors of the ruthless massacres. People Media Factory’s Maa Kaali directed by Vijay Yelakanti, starring Raima Sen and Abhishek Singh, serves a mirror to the past, unfolding the erased history of Bengal.
Maa Kaali team commemorates August 16 events with a spine-chilling reminder of Direct Action Day
For the unversed, from communal violence, mass conversions, to ruthless riots, Direct Action Day led to the murders of thousands of lives to attain an ulterior motive of a separate religious state, which ultimately led to the partition of India. Even after almost eight decades of the tragic incident, the details of the ruthless massacres and its repercussions are widely unknown to the common public not just nationwide but also in Bengal itself.
Turning Calcutta into a burning ground with the lives and livelihoods of Hindus followed by mass killings in Naokhali, the unfortunate and horrendous events also resulted in thousands of refugees seeking shelter in different parts of the nation. Losing their families, homes and identities generations of Hindus have been living without recognition in their own homeland. Ironically, the current national unrest in Bangladesh and the atrocities subjected to the Hindus in the region, offer a reminder to the similar events and incidents that are repeated from almost two decades ago.
With the aim to create awareness about one of the most significant milestones of Modern Indian history, the makers of Maa Kaali present the untold story of Bengal through the lens of a Hindu Bengali family in the film. With Raima Sen and Abhishek Singh leading the film, the teaser of the trilingual releasing in Hindi, Bengali and Telugu, offered a sneak peek into the heinous measures opted by the religiously motivated radicals.
Written and directed by Vijay Yelakanti, Maa Kaali is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad, co-produced by Vivek Kuchibhotla and presented by makers of Karthikeya 2, People Media Factory. The film is slated to release this year.
