Search called off for missing man who fell overboard from vessel in North Sea | UK News – MASHAHER


Rescue teams have called off a search for a missing 23-year-old man who fell overboard from a vessel in the North Sea.

The alarm was raised at about 8.15am on Thursday about 35 nautical miles northeast of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

HM Coastguard mobilised a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft to the scene.

Nearby vessels, an oil and gas industry rescue helicopter from Aberdeen, and teams from RNLI Fraserburgh Lifeboat and RNLI Peterhead Lifeboat were also called to assist.

However, the search was called off just after 8.30pm without the man having been located.

Police Scotland Chief Inspector Steven McDonald, area commander for Aberdeenshire North, said: “Around 9am on Thursday we were made aware of a 23-year-old man having gone overboard from a vessel in the North Sea, 35 miles northeast of Fraserburgh.

“A search and rescue operation was carried out by HM Coastguard but the man remains missing. His next of kin are aware.

“Police inquiries remain ongoing but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.”
