Ukrainian forces operating in Russia’s Kursk region destroyed a bridge over the Seym River near the town of Glushkovo on Friday, August 16, cutting several towns off from the rest of Russia.
Aerial footage posted by Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk shows a large explosion causing a section of bridge to collapse. Oleschuk said the air force was carrying out “high-precision strikes” against Russian military sites, logistics bases, and supply routes.
Pro-Russian blogs on Telegram posted photos of the collapsed bridge and Roman Alekhin, an adviser to the governor of Kursk region, conceded that it had been destroyed. Alekhin also said Ukrainian forces were trying to strike a bridge in Zvannoye, a village about 8 kilometers (5 miles) northwest of Glushkovo along the same river.
Alekhin said Ukraine was attempting to seize control of a section of Glushkovsky District along the Seym River.
According to MASH, a popular Russian Telegram channel, the destruction of the bridge isolated around 30 settlements from the rest of Russia, including Tyotkino, Popovo-Lezhachi, and Volfino. Credit: Ukrainian Air Force via Storyful
