Collingwood will be looking to keep its fading finals hopes alive when it hosts Brisbane at the MCG in a Grand Final re-match.

The Magpies (10-9-2, 100.1%) need a miracle to play in the finals this year, but Lions star Lachie Neale told AFL 360 during the week his team won’t underestimate Collingwood which has “so many weapons that can kill you”.

The Lions (13-7-1, 122.7%) must win to keep in touch with the top four after they slid to fifth last weekend due to a loss to the Giants. It’s the Lions’ second game at the MCG — a venue they’ve won just six of their past 37 matches at — since last year’s Grand Final loss to Collingwood.

ROLLING MATCH UPDATES

Lachie Neale, manned by Steele Sidebottom after he tagged Errol Gulden, started the game in red-hot form.

The dual Brownlow medallist booted the opening goal with a snap from a tight angle after tackling Scott Pendlebury for holding the ball.

Joe Daniher added two more goals for the Lions in a promising start from Chris Fagan’s troops.

“This is the challenge now, Collingwood’s season is teetering. Can they stay invested in this contest?,” Demons legend Garry Lyon posed on Fox Footy.

Brisbane sure was on early in a first-quarter onslaught including Kai Lohmann booting two goals to open up a 30-point lead.

Will Hoskin-Elliott kicked an important steadier for the Pies late in the term to see them trail, 6.4 (40) to 2.4 (16) at the first change.

Lyon noted Lohmann had been a “nightmare matchup” Collingwood needed to address at quarter-time.

In a big concern for the Lions some three weeks out from an om[porta, Jarrod Berry (hamstring tightness) was subbed out early in the second term.
