An Altoona man passed away Saturday after suffering severe injuries in a motorcycle accident on the northeast side of Des Moines.
The fatality is Des Moines’ 12th traffic death this year, according to Des Moines police, and the sixth involving a motorcycle.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday night when a 2019 Lexus SUV, driven by a 44-year-old Des Moines resident, was traveling westbound on Euclid and attempted to turn left onto Wright Street.
Trevor Vinzant, 23, who was operating a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Euclid, collided with the SUV that had entered the intersection with Wright Street.

Driver passed at local hospital
Vinzant was in critical condition when first responders arrived on the scene Friday night. Des Moines firefighters initiated life-saving tactics before the motorcycle driver was taken to a nearby hospital.
It was at the hospital where Vinzant eventually passed.
“Despite continued critical care, Vinzant died on Aug. 17,” the DMPD release said.
The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the fatal accident. The DMPD release said more information will be made public when available.
