PETALING JAYA: Terengganu’s Nurul Syaza Husna Mahari will continue with her archery career after winning gold in the girl’s 50m compound event at the Sarawak Sukma on Sunday (Aug 18).
The win was more than just a mere gold medal for the 21-year-old, it was proof for herself that she can achieve greatness.
“I am just an average shooter and never expected myself to win gold here and challenge all the other archers,” said Syaza.
“I’ve never achieved anything good in this sport before, I’ve never had anything proud to say about myself in archery.
“This is the first time I have gotten such a prize, it’s the biggest thing for me in my life,” she said with tears flowing down her face but determined to keep the momentum going.
Syaza clinched gold with her total score of 681, while Hadira Hisham of the Federal Territories took silver with 680, and Sarawak’s Aira Nadirah Aizuddin settled for bronze with 680 as well but was slightly further from the bullseye.
