KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional win in the Nenggiri state by-election shows the people of Kelantan accept the partnership formed under the unity government, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the win reflected the growing support for the Madani government, in line with recent signs of economic progress.
“God willing, this victory will boost morale among the Madani government to continue safeguarding the people’s welfare and to elevate the nation to new heights,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Aug 18).
Anwar also congratulated Barisan candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, 38, also known as ‘Awie’, on his victory.
Barisan recaptured the Nenggiri state seat with a majority of 3,352 votes.
The Kelantan Umno Youth chief polled 9,091 votes to beat PAS candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, representing Perikatan Nasional, who obtained 5,739 votes.
