There was a shooting at a Kroger supermarket in Columbia on Sunday, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
No injuries were reported and one person was arrested, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
Lateef Karim Carnegie, 50, was charged with attempted murder, use of a firearm while under the influence and breach of peace aggravated in nature, the sheriff’s department said Monday.
At about 5:45 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s department reported the shooting happened at the Kroger grocery store on Killian Road.
The sheriff’s department said the incident at Kroger was not an active threat to the public, and did not involve an active shooter.
The shooting happened in the parking lot when two people were involved in an altercation, according to the release. Information about what led to the altercation was not available, and there was no word if the people involved knew each other prior to the shooting.
Carnegie was arrested without incident and taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to the sheriff’s department. No bond has been set for Carnegie, who remains behind bars, jail records show.
The Blythewood resident is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 25, according to Richland County judicial records.
