The Massachusetts Turnpike eastbound is detoured after a significant crash in Charlton at midafternoon Monday.
Multiple tractor-trailers were involved in a crash in the area of the westbound Charlton rest stop.
Both sides of the highway were closed for a time. At 3:40 p.m., the westbound lanes were opened.
An emergency helicopter was part of the medical emergency response.
Officials said the detour would extend into the late afternoon.
The region saw heavy rain at times during the day.
In #Charlton, I-90 WB has now reopened. I-90 EB remains closed, all I-90 EB traffic is being detoured off at exit 78, and I-84 EB is closed at I-90, with detour to Route 20.
