A dramatic video shared on Instagram shows a North Carolina home collapsing into the Atlantic Ocean on Friday.
The home, in Rodanthe on Hatteras Island, is seen getting knocked off of its wooden foundation by waves along the shore.
A loud crash can be heard in the video as the home falls into the ocean and gets rocked back-and-forth by the waves.
The house was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported when it collapsed Friday evening, the National Park Service said in a news release. Officials from Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge are urging visitors to avoid the beaches around Rodanthe.
“Additionally, all public entry from the northern boundary of Rodanthe up to the northern end of the Jug Handle Bridge is closed,” the park service said. “Many other homes appear to have sustained damages in the Rodanthe area. Dangerous debris may be present on the beach and in the water for more than a dozen miles.”
The home on Corbina Drive is the seventh house to have collapsed in four years along National Seashore beaches in North Carolina, according to the service.
The service is in contact with the home’s owner and will conduct debris removal efforts if other plans aren’t made after the elevated sea conditions subside next week.
Beaches in the area have been closed as a coastal flooding advisory is in effect for North Carolina’s Outer Banks, including Hatteras and Ocracoke islands, until 8 a.m. Monday.
Tropical Storm Ernesto brought dangerous beach conditions, including large waves and rip currents, to the East Coast this weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center.
