Stuart Broad can breathe a sigh of relief.
Samoan cricketer Darius Visser has broken the men’s T20I record for most runs in an over, blasting 39 runs from six legal deliveries during the T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifiers on Tuesday.
Facing Vanuatu seamer Nalin Nipiko at Apia’s Garden Oval No. 2, Visser cleared the boundary rope six times during the 15th over of the innings, which featured three no-balls.
The 28-year-old, who resides in Sydney, clobbered 132 from 62 deliveries, including 14 sixes and five boundaries, to help the Samoans defeat Vanuatu by ten runs.
Visser was responsible for 76 per cent of Samoa’s runs — the second-highest score of the innings was 16 (21) from captain Caleb Jasmat.

Chasing a 175-run target for victory, Vanuatu fell ten runs short, with Visser dismissing rival batter Ronald Tari in the second innings, finishing with figures of 1-29 from four overs.
It was Samoa’s second victory of the tournament, having toppled Fiji by nine wickets last week, with Visser taking 4-11 from four overs and scoring an unbeaten 30 (12).
If Samoa tops their group, which also includes Cook Islands, the Polynesian nation will qualify for a regional final that determines the East-Asia Pacific representative for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
The previous men’s T20I record for most runs in an over was 36, achieved on five occasions, the first of which was India’s Yuvraj Singh famously smacking six consecutive sixes against England’s Stuart Broad during the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa.
The other men’s T20I cricketers who have scored 36 runs in an over were Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Dipendra Singh Airee and Rohit Sharma/Rinku Singh.
Visser, who previously played Sydney grade cricket for St George District and Sydney University, also became the first Samoan to score a century at international level. He coaches cricket at Sydney University and Newington College.
