Family of brothers killed in fiery crash after Augusta police chase create GoFundMe – MASHAHER

The family of two brothers they believed were killed in a dangerous chase with Augusta authorities recently created a GoFundMe to raise funds for a memorial service.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety reported a Blythe police officer tried to stop a Mercury Sable on Friday for speeding north on Deans Bridge Road, when the suspect allegedly refused to stop, according to previous reporting.

As they approached the Bath Edie Road intersection, the suspect entered the southbound lanes still traveling north, according to GDPS. The Blythe officer didn’t pursue the suspect on the wrong side of the road.

After traveling north for about a mile, the suspect hit a southbound truck head-on just north of the Etterle Road intersection, The Chronicle reported. The suspect’s car was engulfed in flames and the three occupants in the fleeing vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

While authorities have not yet received autopsy results identifying the three people killed in the crash, a GoFundMe created Monday identifies two of the people killed as Casey and Barry Fields.

“On [Aug. 16,] the lives of two brothers, Casey and Barry were taken by a tragic motor vehicle accident,” organizers wrote on the site. “The vehicle was traveling into oncoming traffic when met by another vehicle causing a devastating head-on collision resulting in the deaths of both Casey and Barry Fields.”

The fundraiser notes the Fields family is “in need of any and all financial help to provide a memorial service” and asked for prayers for the parents, Barry Fields and Shakelia Scott.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised $400 of the $10,000 goal, according to the site.
