Tuesday morning marks the fifth day since Stanley Kotowski, 60, a visitor to Hilton Head mysteriously disappeared. Local law enforcement has now intensified the the search to include helicopters, boats, drones and canines in an effort that Master Sgt. Danny Allen of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office characterized as by “land, water and air.”
Kotowski, from Massachusetts, was last seen on Friday morning around 10:30 a.m. leaving a condo on Sea Pines Drive where he and his family were vacationing. Kotowski was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, and he left without shoes or a phone. His wife reported his disappearance to the sheriff’s office just a few hours later. There was some concern regarding Kotoski’s mental state when he went missing, Allen said.
In addition to the helicopters, drones, boats and canines there will also be increased presence of police enforcement throughout the community during the active search, Allen said. The department has been searching wood lines and unoccupied buildings and placed Kotowski’s information on a national database for missing persons. They have also spoken with other agencies in and out of state and continue to responded to tips from the public, Allen said.
The Sheriff’s office asks that community members check their personal cameras and property for any signs of Kotowski. Anyone who knows information about Kotowski’s whereabouts should call the department’s non-emergency dispatch line, 843-524-2777.
