KUCHING: Sarawakian Jonah Chang Rigan came out on top in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) discus throw final at the Sarawak Stadium in Petra Jaya on Wednesday (Aug 21).
The 21-year-old from Sarikei had the best effort of 46.16m to win his second gold of the Games after winning the shot putt gold on Monday.
Negri Sembilan’s William Reiss Ling took silver by throwing 44.77m, while Perlis’ Rizad Azri Che Radzi took bronze with 41.42m.
As it was raining, Jonah did not only give up but urged his competitors to fight on.
“I know some of the athletes were worried because of the wet conditions but I told the boys to fight on for their states,” said Jonah.
“I am delighted with this win and hope to do well in the hammer throw final on Friday though the competition will be tough.”
In the girls’ 10,000m walk, Federal Territories took the gold and silver through Kok Hui Ying and P. Kaarthiyani respectively.
Hui Ying finished her race in 57:41.79, while Kaarthiyani took 58:09.69 to complete her race.
Kedah’s Nur Damea Balqisya Mohd Idzwan won bronze with a time of 58:38.80.
