Cinespia Announces October Lineup, ‘Suspiria’ Halloween Screening – MASHAHER

Cinespia has announced its lineup for October, celebrating the Halloween season with four fan-favorite horror classics.

The L.A.-based screening series wraps up its outdoor season at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery with 1974’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” on Oct. 5, a 15th anniversary screening of “Coraline” on Oct. 12 and “Trick ‘r Treat” on Oct. 19. On Halloween night, Cinespia will present 1977’s “Suspiria” at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

“What better way to embrace the spooky season than by watching horror classics under the stars at a cemetery?” said Cinespia founder John Wyatt announcing the lineup. “We’re also thrilled to return to The Orpheum for the second consecutive year, hosting our fans on Halloween night for a special screening of the original ‘Suspiria.’”

On Oct. 5, Cinespia celebrates the 50th anniversary of “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” the indie slasher about a group of five teenagers who face off against a deadly family in rural Texas. The horror film from director Tobe Hooper led to a franchise that continued the story of Leatherface and his family.

On a slightly more family-friendly note, Cinespia marks the 15th anniversary of “Coraline” with groundbreaking film studio Laika. The stop-motion animated dark fantasy horror film centers on 11-year-old Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning), who discovers a secret door in her house that leads to an alternate version of her life — which is more sinister than it initially seems.

The 2007 cult classic “Trick ‘r Treat” screens on Oct. 19, closing Cinespia’s outdoor season at Hollywood Forever. The anthology horror film weaves together multiple Halloween stories: from a principal with a bloody secret life to a prank that goes rank, all linked by demonic trick-or-treater.

Cinespia’s final October screening moves the scares indoors to the Orpheum Theatre, with a Halloween night presentation 1977’s “Suspiria,” director Dario Argento’s original “Danse Macabre.” Jessica Harper stars as Suzy, a young American who finds her admission to a prestigious German ballet school comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders.

Presented by Amazon MGM Studios, screenings include DJ sets, a beer and wine bar, concession stands and a free photo booth. Moviegoers may bring their own blankets, food and drinks. Tickets can be purchased at cinespia.org.
