One of the scariest movies of the summer will soon be streaming. “Longlegs” is a big surprise hit taking in more than $100 million at the worldwide box office, which makes it the highest grossing indie film of the year.
Starting on Friday, Aug. 23 at 12 a.m. ET/Thursday, Aug. 22 at 9 p.m. PT, “Longlegs” in 4K Ultra HD is available to buy digitally for $24.99 online on Prime Video, Apple TV and other video-on-demand platforms.
Meanwhile, the film’s distributor Neon has yet to announce the street date for “Longlegs” home video release. However, you can still pre-order the horror movie on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD discs with prices starting at $18 on Target and Amazon.
As for the film itself, Variety’s chief film critic Peter Debruge praised the film for “hijacking” his subconscious. The film’s director “Perkins understands that jump scares are but one of the pleasures of a successful horror movie,” he writes in his movie review. “Destabilizing audience expectations and relieving tension with unforeseen bursts of absurdity are every bit as important — both tactics he employs with expert precision.”
Directed by Osgood Perkins, “Longlegs” follows FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) assigned to investigate a string of murders that leads her to an elusive serial killer called “Longlegs” (Nicolas Cage).
The movie also stars Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, Dakota Daulby, Lauren Acala, Kiernan Shipka, Maila Hosie, Jason William Day, Lisa Chandler, Ava Kelders, Rryla McIntosh, Carmel Amit and others.
