A 42-year-old Hernando, Mississippi, man was arrested and charged Thursday in connection with the theft of exclusive Nike sneakers from Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway’s home, Memphis Police told The Commercial Appeal.
The man has been charged with a Class E felony theft of property.
According to Memphis Police, officers responded to a theft call at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Aug. 8.
Fourteen pairs of the sneakers — designed for Hardaway, as well as friends and family — were taken, according to the incident report, which also lists the estimated value of the shoes at $2,100.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Memphis Police noted that when officers arrived on scene, they were advised that security camera footage captured a “male pushing a shopping cart and stealing multiple packages.” Memphis Police also released still images of a suspect who was wearing a black tank-top and long pants.
One image shows a male wearing a backpack and pushing a shopping cart with boxes stacked more than six feet high.
