The fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention brought in an average of 26.2 million viewers, boosted by a speech from presidential nominee Kamala Harris, during which viewership peaked at 28.9 million.
That marks a solid improvement from the first three nights’ steady viewership: Nielsen estimated that 20 million people tuned in on Monday, followed by 20.8 million on Tuesday and 20.2 million on Wednesday.
Overall, the DNC was more widely watched than the Republican National Convention. The final night of the RNC brought in 24.5 million average viewers, peaking at 28.4 million during Donald Trump’s speech — just under Harris’ peak. The RNC opened with 18.1 million viewers on its first night before dipping down to 14.8 million on the second night and jumping back up to 18 million on the third.
Of Thursday’s 26.2 million average, 1.4 million were among ages 18-34, up from 968,000 the night before.
Each estimate accounts for a wide array of networks. Monday’s includes ABC, CBS, NBC, Scripps News, Univision, CNN, CNNe, FOX Business, FOX News Channel, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation and PBS, while Tuesday and Wednesday’s included the same minus Univision. Thursday’s estimate includes Univision, Telemundo and each of the other previously measured networks.
“In many ways, Donald Trump is an unserious man,” Harris said during her speech. “But the consequences of putting Donald Trump back in the White House are extremely serious to consider. This election is not only the most important of our lives. It is one of the most important in the life of our nation.”
