Tesla recalls 9,100 Model X SUVs in U.S. for roof trim issue—second recall since 2020 | – MASHAHER

Tesla has announced a recall for approximately 9,100 Model X SUVs in the U.S. due to a potential issue with the roof trim. This is the second recall related to this problem since 2020.
The recall concerns the front and centre roof cosmetic trim pieces, which may not have been properly adhered with primer. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this could cause the trim to detach, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected models and remediation

The recall affects Model X SUVs from the 2016 model year.Tesla reported that a process change was made at the supplier in July 2016 to address this issue in later models. The company will test the adhesion of the roof trim and reattach any loose pieces at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Investigations and findings

Since 2022, Tesla has been investigating issues related to previous recall remedies, including conducting tests for ageing, heat, and humidity. The investigation revealed that the 2020 recall remedy was insufficient to prevent the detachment of cosmetic roof trim pieces due to the lack of primer.
Tesla has received around 170 reports and claims related to this issue but has not documented any crashes or injuries associated with it. This recall is noteworthy for Tesla, as the company usually addresses issues through over-the-air software updates rather than physical recalls.

Tesla overall recall activity

In the first half of the year, Tesla recalled nearly 2.6 million vehicles due to safety concerns, ranking just behind Ford Motor, which recalled approximately 3.6 million vehicles in the U.S., according to recall management platform Bizzycar.
In June, Tesla also issued a recall for its latest model, the Cybertruck, marking the fourth recall for this vehicle model.
