Former Golden Knights Prospect Involved In Another Blockbuster Deal – MASHAHER

Former Vegas Golden Knights 2023 first-round pick David Edstrom was involved in a trade that saw him move to the Nashville Predators and Yaroslav Askarov to the San Jose Sharks.

The Golden Knights selected the 19-year-old with the 32nd overall pick and he’s now been traded twice early in his career.

He was first traded to the Sharks as the main return for Tomas Herlt. The Sharks acquired Edstrom and a first-round pick from the Golden Knights. Yesterday, the Sharks decided to involve him in another trade as they acquired Askarov, Nolan Burke and a 2025 third-round pick in exchange for Edstrom, Magnus Chrona and a 2025 first-round pick, which is also the Golden Knights’ first-round pick.

Askarov made headlines when he announced that he would not be reporting to the Predators AHL team and was requesting a trade. He took this route after the Predators signed Juuse Saros to an eight-year extension.

He’ll now join a Sharks franchise that is in need of a starting goaltender and will be the team’s number-one goaltender during the 2024-25 season. Sharks fans have much to be excited about with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith set to begin their NHL careers this season and can add a potential top goaltender to their young squad.

Edstrom is joining a favourable situation in Nashville. The team is looking to compete for a Stanley Cup with multiple veterans, so the Predators can be patient and let him develop in Sweden and later in their farm system. Once he reaches the NHL level, he’ll have well-respected veterans to learn from in Ryan O’Reilly and Steven Stamkos.

Edstrom isn’t hopping from team to team due to poor performances but because many teams are willing to acquire him in blockbuster deals. His 6’3 frame and defensive capabilities are a valued asset for any team.
