Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky unveiled a newly developed weapon for the embattled nation’s armed forces, stating that the Palyanyitsya drone missile is to be integrated into Ukraine’s missile programme on Saturday.
“This drone missile is much faster than our long-range drones and more powerful,” he said.
Zelensky was unable and unwilling to disclose further details, citing security reasons.
Palyanyitsya refers to the traditional white bread of Ukraine.
Ukraine has started producing different types of drones over the past few months, relatively inexpensive weapons that can be mass-produced in large quantities.
The Ukrainian armed forces primarily use long-range drones for targets on Russian territory as their Western partners have not yet allowed Kiev to use heavy weapons such as missiles or cruise missiles for such attacks.
