Group shows up at George Town court in support of CM Chow in defamation suit – MASHAHER

GEORGE TOWN: A group of supporters, including former DAP members, arrived early at the courthouse here to show support for Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is being sued by tycoon Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping.

Among those present on the first day of the trial were former DAP members Hew Kuan Yau, popularly known as “Superman Hew”, and Teh Yee Cheu, who is also former Tanjong Bungah assemblyman.

Others in attendance on Monday (Aug 26) were Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, state executive councillors Lim Siew Khim and Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Chow’s political secretary Lau Keng Ee and city councillors.

Accompanying Tan was Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Seri Hong Yeam Wah, according to a Chinese daily.

The three-day trial, which will end on Aug 28, at the High Court, is over a statement made by Chow regarding Tan’s resignation as a trustee of the Silver Jubilee Home in December last year.

Tan is represented by counsel Kek Boon Wei while Chow is represented by Cheah Eng Soon.

Prior to the trial, both parties had attempted a court-ordered mediation session in May but it failed to reach a settlement.
