Kriti Sanon recently discussed Bollywood’s enduring cinematic legacy and the return of theatres after a dry spell. She responded to entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath’s podcast statement that the Hindi cinema industry is no longer thriving. Kriti defended the film business, noting that audiences’ expectations of cinema have increased in recent years.
Kriti Sanon disagrees with Nikhil Kamath, defends Bollywood; says, “Industry is thriving, expectations have changed”
Kriti disagreed with Nikhil’s claim that the success of the Bollywood film industry has declined and that it is struggling to employ as many people as it once did. She cited examples from her films Crew and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. While further elaborating her views, she said, “Earlier, if a film earned Rs. 100 crores, it would be a big deal. Now, Rs. 100 crores is nothing. So, the expectation has gone somewhere else only. There was a phase when it (Bollywood) was not (thriving), but now theatres are back and how.” Rapper-singer Badshah, who was also a guest on the podcast, agreed with the Do Patti actor. He pondered how individuals in Bollywood have learned from the challenging times and are now thriving.
Kriti made her acting debut in the 2014 Telugu film 1: Nenokkadine, alongside Mahesh Babu. Her Bollywood debut was with Heropanti (2014), starring Tiger Shroff. She later appeared in notable Hindi films such as Dilwale, Raabta, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi, and Mimi. She also featured in Bhediya, Shehzada, Adipurush, and Ganapath. Her recent films, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew, have been commercial successes.
Kriti will next appear in Shashanka Chaturvedi’s forthcoming mystery crime thriller Do Patti. Kajol, Shaheer Sheikh, and Tanvi Azmi have key roles in the film. Kanika Dhillon wrote the script. Do Patti is the first film produced by Kriti and Kanika’s new production companies, Blue Butterfly Films and Kathha Pictures. The release date is yet to be confirmed, but it will soon be available on Netflix.
