Police in Iqaluit are telling residents in the Upper and Lower Plateau neighbourhood to shelter in place over an “ongoing situation” in the community.

An alert was sent to Iqaluit residents’ cell phones, televisions and broadcast on the radio Monday morning telling people to shelter in place.

The alert said police are responding to a situation in Iqaluit’s Upper and Lower Plateau neighbourhood.

People should expect to see a “high presence” of police officers, RCMP said in a statement.

RCMP did not provide any further information.
