SANDY, Utah (ABC4) — Sandy police took a man into custody after he allegedly fired a gun at another driver in what police are calling a road rage incident on Sunday night, Aug. 25.

Tony Larod Robinson, 33, was booked into jail on one charge of third-degree felony aggravated assault. He also faces two counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment and misdemeanor illegal discharge of a firearm.

A spokesperson with the Sandy Police Department told ABC4.com the incident happened around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Harrison Street and Monroe.

Robinson got into a verbal argument with another driver. During that argument, Ribson allegedly retrieved his handgun and fired several rounds toward the other driver. The victim attempted to drive away, according to court documents, but Robinson allegedly chased after them.

“Robinson continued to fire his gun through his front windshield as [the victim[ attempted to flee from the shots being fired,” Court documents state. “Both vehicles were located and found to have several bullet holes.”

Two of Robinsons’ children, aged 3 and 6 years old, were reportedly in the car at the time. Police say the 6-year-old had complained to officers that his “hearing hurt.” Sandy Police confirmed no one was seriously injured in the shooting.

When speaking with detectives, Robinson allegedly admitted to shooting at the victim and not in self-defense. He reportedly described the incident as a “lapse in judgment,” according to court documents.

Harrison Street was closed for several hours on Sunday night as detectives investigated the scene.

The investigation is still currently ongoing and being actively worked by detectives, according to Sandy Police. A Sandy PD spokesperson told ABC4.com that the case will be presented to the Salt Lake County District Attorney for formal charges once the investigation is completed.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
