South Burlington woman charged in the fatal shooting outside Red Square appears in court – MASHAHER

Aaliyah Johnson pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge for the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Stowe resident Teville Williams over the weekend.

Johnson, a 22-year-old from South Burlington, was charged with shooting Williams outside Red Square at the Church Street Marketplace early Saturday morning. She was apprehended at the scene, according to the police report.

Court files from the Monday morning arraignment stated Johnson would be held without bail “until a weight of the evidence hearing and a bail review.”

No date for those court appearances has been set, and more information is expected later this week.

What was the timeline around the Burlington shooting

  • Johnson and Williams were removed from Red Square early Saturday morning after Johnson claimed Williams had assaulted her inside the venue, according to court documents and the police report.

  • Police said that once the two were outside, Johnson approached Williams on Church Street and shot him in front of the bar.

  • A Community Service Officer, who was on patrol in City Hall Park, heard the gunshots and called dispatch.

  • Officers responded and located Williams who had been struck by gunfire. They immediately began CPR. An off-duty officer who was nearby also assisted. The officers were hampered by the large crowd that had gathered at the scene.

  • Police said they had to push back the crowd to preserve the crime scene, which included shell casings, bullets and blood evidence.

  • Another officer encountered and apprehended Johnson and recovered a .45 caliber pistol.

  • Williams was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center and declared dead there.

  • Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak released a statement Saturday thanking the first responders and giving condolences to the victim’s family.

  • Red Square also released a statement announcing their closure Saturday to let their staff “relax and heal.”
