CHESTERFIELD − Two adults and two juveniles are facing charges after authorities say fights broke out Saturday night at the Chesterfield County Fair.

The scuffles happened around 8:30 p.m., about a half-hour before the fair was scheduled to close, police spokesperson Elizabeth Caroon said. Police had received word that several juveniles at the gate were going to fight, and when officers intervened, several people in the crowd became angry and tried to force their way into the fair.

One juvenile was arrested at the gate for assaulting a fair employee.

As police tried to disperse the crowd, several fights broke out in the parking lots.

“Multiple officers deployed pepper spray to break up multiple fights,” Caroon said.

A total of 13 people were treated for injuries, 12 of them due to exposure to the pepper spray. A juvenile was taken to the hospital for treatment of spray exposure.

One person was treated for an arm injury.

A 15-year-old was charged with simple assault, and a 14-year-old was arrested for assault on a police officer. Both were released to their parents’ custody, Caroon said.

Klarion Dupree Faulkner, 18, of Richmond, was charged with trespassing, obstructing justice, disorderly conduct, underage possession of marijuana and possessing a firearm on school property. Caroon said the suspect had parked on adjacent school property, and the gun was in his vehicle.

Eric Edwards Jr., 31, of Henrico County, was charged with trying to brandish a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and carrying a concealed weapon.

Bond information for the adult suspects was not available.

Caroon said no police officers were injured in the melees.

An investigation is continuing.

So far, fair officials have not commented on the incident.

The fair opened Friday night and runs through next weekend.
