Erie police probe two-vehicle crash on Bayfront Connector that injured North East man – MASHAHER

A North East man was seriously injured Monday night after his car went out of control and crashed into another vehicle along the Bayfront Connector in Erie, according to city police.

The accident was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday along the Bayfront Connector near McClelland Avenue, according to police and Erie County 911.

Investigators said a 69-year-old North East man was driving a 1998 Pontiac Firebird east on the Bayfront Connector when it appeared he lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the median and collided with a Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling west on the highway.

The Pontiac and the Chevrolet, which was driven by a 52-year-old woman with a 76-year-old male passenger, both received severe disabling damage, Erie police reported.

The driver of the Pontiac was taken to UPMC Hamot with severe injuries, according to police. Investigators said the man was listed in stable condition at the hospital Tuesday morning.

The two occupants of the Chevrolet were treated and released from UPMC Hamot, police reported.

The accident remained under investigation Tuesday. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is asked to call Erie police Cpl. John Stephens at 814-870-1419.
