The Polk County Sheriff’s Office identified two people who died in a crash Friday as Trey Joseph Ridgeway, 25, of Ankeny, and Jayden Anna Hughes, 23, of Clear Lake.

Both died on the scene of the crash, which happened just before 2 p.m. Friday in an unincorporated area between Polk City and Ankeny, according to a news release Tuesday. The sheriff’s office has not identified a cause of the crash.

Deputies found two vehicles on the scene — one was in the southeast ditch of the intersection of Northwest 44th Street and Northwest 126th Avenue and the other was engulfed in flames on the south side of the roadway in a wooded tree line.

A preliminary investigation found the car in which Ridgeway and Hughes were traveling was eastbound on Northwest 126th Avenue and was engulfed in flames. It collided with the other vehicle that was traveling southbound on Northwest 44th Street, according to the news release.

The southbound vehicle was occupied by one woman, who was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office released a photo of Ridgeway his family provided; it did not have a photo of Hughes.
