YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Local humane agents are calling the condition they found a dog in Youngstown one of the worst cases of abuse and neglect they’ve seen.
Five-month-old Bentley was discovered Monday evening lying under a bush at a home on Youngstown’s east side. Paramedics answering a call there for the owner of the house found the dog and called police and Animal Charity.
Agents say the puppy weighed just 11 pounds, was severely dehydrated and starved.
“The man did state that it was his son’s dog. There was another dog there as well who died previously, and this his son had been incarcerated for two months and that he was just waiting for the puppy to die,” said Jane MacMurchy with Animal Charity of Ohio.
Bentley was rushed to a veterinary hospital in Akron last night and is in very poor condition. Agents say they are still gathering evidence to turn over to county prosecutors in the case.
