Filmmaker Boney Kapoor recently delighted fans with a nostalgic throwback on his Instagram account. He shared a rare black-and-white photo from the set of the iconic film Mr. India, taken just before the movie’s shooting began in January 1985. The picture features legendary actors Sridevi and Anil Kapoor, along with Boney Kapoor and celebrated writer Javed Akhtar. Anil is seen in his character’s iconic look, while Sridevi is dressed in a long gown.

Fans Demand Mr India Sequel with Ranveer Singh
The throwback post quickly caught the attention of fans, sparking a wave of comments. One enthusiastic user expressed a desire for a sequel, suggesting, “Part 2 is needed. Anil Kapoor ji and Ranveer Singh as the villain.” Another fan reflected on the personal connections in the photo, noting, “It’s crazy to think that 2 people in this picture had no idea that they would fall in love and make history and add to the legacy of a historic family.”
Clarifying the Release Date of Mr. India
In response to a fan’s query about the film’s production timeline, Boney Kapoor clarified, “IDD Release in May 1987,” confirming that it took nearly two and a half years for the film to hit theaters.
The Legacy of Mr. India
Mr. India, directed by Shekhar Kapur and produced by Boney Kapoor along with Surinder Kapoor, remains one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished films. The superhero story, penned by the iconic duo Salim-Javed, was their last collaboration before they parted ways. The film’s music, composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, contributed to its success, making it the second highest-grossing film of 1987.
