In a conversation with Humans of Bombay, Sen was disappointed. “After the match, I was devastated. It’s going to hurt for a while that I couldn’t give India the medal at this Olympics,” he admitted. Reflecting on his performance, Sen acknowledged that there were aspects of his game he could have improved, especially in those critical final moments.
Prakash Padukone’s tough love: A coach’s honest reaction
Sen’s coach, the legendary Prakash Padukone, did not shy away from expressing his disappointment. Speaking to reporters, Padukone emphasized the need for Sen to take responsibility for the loss and come back stronger. “He could have definitely gotten a medal. I know he is young, but he cannot give this as an excuse. Take the responsibility and work harder,” Padukone stated, pushing Sen to recalibrate and prepare for future challenges.

Amidst the criticism and disappointment, Sen found comfort in the consistent support from his coach’s daughter, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone. Known for her warmth and encouragement, Deepika reached out to Sen after the bronze medal match. “Even after the match, she called me and said, ‘It’s fine; don’t worry. You did good.’ Prakash sir has been like a mentor and father figure to me. It’s always nice to talk to them if I want any advice,” Sen shared, highlighting the positive influence the Padukone family has had on his journey.
