Kangana Ranaut recently opened about her challenging journey to learn how to drive, sharing a humorous yet relatable story during her appearance on The Bombay Journey with Mashable India. Despite her best efforts, the actress failed to obtain a driving license, twice crashing her car during the training period. Her amusing anecdotes highlight her determination to conquer the skill, even after repeated setbacks.
Kangana Ranaut shares she and Deepika Padukone went to the same driving achool: “Woh toh drive kar rahi hai, woh toh….”
A shared driving school experience with Deepika Padukone
During the interview, Kangana revealed an interesting connection with Deepika Padukone—they both attended the same driving school in Bandra, Mumbai, around the same time. Kangana recalled, “Me and Deepika came around the same time, she in 2007 and me in 2006. So, we were at the driving school at the same time in Bandra.” Despite their shared training, Kangana humorously admitted that she couldn’t pass her driving test, recounting how she slammed her car into a rickshaw just as she was about to receive her license.
Deepika’s driving skills spark Kangana’s determination
After her initial driving mishap, Kangana put her desire to drive on hold. However, a few years later, she saw Deepika confidently driving her SUV at an event. This sight reignited her determination. Kangana shared, “After 5-6 years I saw at an event that Deepika was driving her own SUV! I said, ‘Woh toh drive kar rahi hai, woh toh mere saath seekh rahi thi! Phir maine kaha, ‘Ab toh seekh ke hi rahungi (She learnt how to drive, and we were at the same place! Then I said I will learn driving now)!”
Another unfortunate crash, but still determined
Kangana decided to give driving another shot, motivated by seeing her peers, including Deepika, driving. But once again, fate had other plans. On the day she was supposed to get her license, she accidentally slammed her car into a police jeep. Recalling the incident, she joked, “When the police came, I said your jeep is okay, my car got all the marks! I left driving that time.” Despite these setbacks, Kangana remains determined to master driving, proving her resilience and humor in the face of adversity.
Kangana’s upcoming project: ‘Emergency’
While her driving journey continues, fans can look forward to seeing Kangana in her upcoming film Emergency, which also marks her directorial debut. The film, based on the 1975 emergency imposed in India, features Kangana portraying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The highly anticipated movie is set to release in theaters on September 6, promising another powerful performance from the actress.
